First day with the A70. Everything up and running, no problem downloading photos. The computer (Windows 98SE) locks up when I turn off the camera and/or disconnect the USB cable. Did I miss something in the user guide/software starter guide?

I don't have a Windows 98SE computer available, but both ME and XP have an icon for "Safely Remove Hardware" that is to be used when removing USB hardware. It makes sure that all software links are closed before you pull the plug.

You may look for something equivilant in your 98SE help file.

A good solution, get a Compact Card Reader and attach that to your computer. You can take the card of of your camera and slide it into the reader. The advantages: Your pictures will download faster; you won't need to power up your camera to download pictures; it's just easier; in your case, your computer won't freeze up when you turn off the computer.

Good luck,

Scott
