Every book on photography that I've read tells you to take pictures at sunrise and sunset, plus/minus 1/2 hour, or after storms. and they are correct, the light is great at those times.

Is there any way in that extensive, expensive Photoshop CS3 program (or any other program) to duplicate that "look"?

You probably can by using a bunch of filters etc.

To be honest though. The best shots come from the actual photography, not the post-processing.

If you want great sunrise/sunset shots. Get up early and put the effort in. You'll really appreciate the results far more than anything that post-prcessing can do.

It's not just the colours and tonalility, it's subtle things like the mist that's around, the angles of the shadows. Things that you can't easily produce in PP work and will make your shots look somewhat fake.
