So my LCS (local camera shop) called me up with a great offer yesterday. Hes got the Sigma 12-24 f/4.5-5.6 for $435 after sale as opposed to $635 regular.
I had the Sigma 10-20 DC for a while and sold it because its mission was over or well the mission never took place (was supposed to go to Seychelles for a week but got severely busy and never made it). I vowed that the next UWA would be either the 12-24 or an L equivalent.
Im pondering whether it or the 17-40 L will lie dormant because of the purchase. I guess im not sure if the 17-40 L is wide enough, or will I ever bother to switch lens.
I feel that if I decide the shot should be 15mm, i would rather put on the 17-40 L and swallow the loss of 2mm in return for the stupendous quality of images my 17-40 L yeilds me. The Sigma is also not the adequate walk around, so im sure if the need for UWA came up, I would have another lens on and that means id have to swap it with the Sigma which to me would really be 12-15mm because if I need to go longer, I prefer to put the 17-40 f/4 back on.
On the other hand, if I ever planned on gettin a UWA, now is the time due to the great deal. I even tested the two copies they had at the store. One was soft (when y'all gonna get your QC right Sigma?) but the other was nice and sharp (noted it's serial # down if I do decide to purchase.)
Im heading to Malaysia (mostly Islands) and Singapore for about 3 weeks starting mid july and then off to Pakistan (yeah!!) for 10 days.
Did anyone face a similar dilemma?
is that US$?
