Well, today I took the trusty Digital Rebel to some Olympic Diving Trials.
The television studios had some bright lighting for TV, so I figured high speeds would be no problem.
First I tried my 85mm F1.8 lens, but it was too short, and it had trouble focusing on the divers since they were such a small portion of the focus point (I had it locked at center focus point).
Then I brought out my 70-200mm F4L, and discovered I had to use ISO1600 just to get 1/250s shutter speeds!
I took about 70 shots, learning as I went (my first pictures were horrible), went home and looked at them on my PC. I was shocked (again) at how little noise there was, and I was doing my usual exif double take because I couldnt believe how smooth ISO1600 was. No noise reduction required at all!
I went back again, and this time increased the shutter speed to 1/320 and 1/400. The images were a little dark, but much sharper.
When I got home I was still impressed by the noise, but since they were slightly underexposed, I ran the pics thru Noise Ninja (btw how do you keep exif info with Ninja?)
These are the results. Many bad ones, nothing too spectacular, but the Rebel did a nice job. I even have a 3 shot sequence of a short 3M dive, and the Rebel kept up nicely! (pic 64-66).
