I thought that the Eclipse1 would eat through the tinoxide coating?

60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.

I'm actually using The Eclpise 2 solution now. :) I've only used the Eclipse 1 on a few cleanings but, I haven't had the problem since.

I've had my 5D since a month after they came out and finally decided to clean the sensor. Mind you after using a Rocket blower all this time, I still wasn't seeing spots on photographs. But decided I needed to learn to do it anyway. I got the Eclipse 2 solution and a very expensive little box of sensor swabs. I made sure the batteries were charged, set the camera to sensor clean, put 2 drops on the swab, wiped the sensor one way, flipped the swab and wiped the opposite way and that was it. About 3 minutes and a clean sensor.
Nothing to it.

Thought I'd share my experience with the Eclipse I for those who would like to know.

My 5D was purchased new this year, the manual says it was printed in 2007 so I assume my camera was probably manufactured this year or if not late last. I was reluctant to try eclipse since all the bad press that has been circulating around re tinoxide coatings being removed from the sensor glass when used with Eclipse! After doing a fair bit of reading I was convinced it should be ok considering the Eclipse vendors recommend Eclipse for the 5D (updated Sept 2007 on their site).

I just gave mine a clean not once but 5 times! All good! no problems, the sensor is now clean as!

What forced me to use the eclipse method was the fact I used the static brush method which has worked for me everytime on my 30D but the first time I used it on the 5D it left freakin streaks on my sensor!!!!

I am very careful not to touch the brush with my hands, but I still managed to streak it! WTF??? After reading a bit more on the dpreview forums, it is apparently quite common for the camera chamber on the 5Ds to have an oily residue from the factory!?! I guess when I brushed the sensor I must have touched the side walls and ended up spreading some oily residue on my sensor!

The eclipse cleaning fluid has saved the day for me!!! So from my experience it is SAFE to use the eclipse on a new 5D (2006/2007 make I think).

Hope this helps,
William

I haven't had any problems with this solution and it works for me all the time.

Just bought, and used, the Dust-Aid system on my 5D. Easy, quick, dry, works as it says on the tin (literally)
