sRGB vs RGB

sRGB & RGB which one do you set on your camera? which one for PS pp. I know that sRGB is perfect for the Web. But for just viewing on your computer or send out for printing, should we use sRGB or we should change to RGB?

I would keep it at RGB, to have it print ready and convert sRGB for the web.

There are many threads her about this but to summarise as I understand it.

sRGB is fine for 99% of your needs i.e. fine for web images & monitor usage and also for printing at the lab but if you have intentiosn of supplying images for magzine printing then aRGB (AdobeRGB) is the desired colour space, it has more colours in the Gamut which can be used in CYMK printing.

If you search about colourspace you will find rafts of articles many of which could be too technical and confusing ~ well they are for me ~ incidently just because you use sRGB does not mean that the images are unusable for magazines it is just that you find the pro's use aRGB because of the 'demanding' nature of for example the fashion industry.

Am I right in thinking it makes no difference if you shoot in raw,
Someone told me that best profile was the prophoto RGB in PS, so I load raw it is profiled to prophoto RGB, and use that profile, print in that profile, and change it later to sRGB if for web.

That means if we want more creation on the pictures, use aRGB (has more gamut). And in normal use, just keep sRGB. Is that correct?
I have set both my cameras and photoshop with sRGB. But because I want to understand more about both of them, so I search on the net and read. The more I read, the more it made me confused. That's why I want to ask this question.

I set my 5D for aRGB then on my final step of editing I change the profile to sRGB.

Just my 2cts. I get lots less trouble with skin tones in aRGB than sRGB. I leave my camera in aRGB. I never change it. I just pp until I like what it looks like. Works for me.

sRGB is a default setting with most monitors and online printing printers and lab printers, if memory serves me right.

Adobe RGB give a slightly wider color gamut, and your printer may use this format. However, you have to make sure that the monitor, your post processing program, and printer are set to this colorspace.

In prints, I'm not sure I can tell the difference. I'm personally not aware of a comparison of a RAW shot converted to sRGB and aRGB JPEG images and printed out to see if there are any differences.

Doh! I surmised he was refering to aRGB, hmm! yes he does need to come back and clarify because if not aRGB what is he refering to????

Anyone who asks "should I use adobe RGB or sRgb" usually doesn't know enough to use different color profiles, so I suggest they stick with 100% sRgb. There's a color book in the thread linked from my sig that will teach people all they wanted to know about color and then some.
