Out in the suburbs of NJ there are already over 100 people lined up to purchase iPhones today. The iPhones go on sale at 6pm and the store was closed between 2pm and 6pm to get ready for the first customers.

I'm holding out for the next round of iPhones when they include the one major missing feature- a CF slot!

So, what does an iPhone do that my Nokia/Motarola/Sony etc what ever it is won't?

Other than coming with a flashy marketing campaign, stupidly high price and pretty logo shaped like a piece of fruit?

Serious question, I'm not being cynical. I promise.

I'm not quite sure that I see the fascination with the iphone, but to each his own, I guess. People think my camera gear is overboard as well.

No gps, no Exchange or ActiveSync functionality.

It's an ipod that rings. It certinaly is not useful for business.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional

For $600? No thank you. My parents saw a line in the local mall around the corner. Probably 100 in line. Apple Store set a 2 per person limit and opened sales at 6pm today.

An hour later the line was gone and they still had PLENTY of stock left. My parents walked in just to see the hype and the sales person asked if they wanted an iphone. They were told they still had plenty left in the back and that's with almost everyone buying 2 at a time.

What does that mean? Tonight everyone is going to post on Ebay and suddenly find out the market has crashed because EVERYONE HAS ONE ALREADY! IN fact, everyone who wanted one probably has TWO!! LOL. It's the PS3 ebay crash all over again...lol.

Hmm...now that I'm looking at the iPhone again....naw. I hate Cingular service. What good is a $600 phone when you can never get good service connections?

My blackberry does everything the Iphone does except wifi. And I got mine free with a year's contract... I like my BB better.

The iPhone is seriously lacking. It's a generic phone - no 3G etc - with the addition of wifi and a unix based operating system. If you want a truly functional phone, get a Nokia N95. If you want a phone for business and emailing, get a blackberry with a full, tactile responsive keyboard. If you want a gimmicky, overpriced gadget, get an iPhone.
