Hello Everyone!

I want to upload a couple of digital pictures I took while in Washington DC but the site I want to upload them to limits the image size to 6mb or less.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and Paint Shop Pro XI. Is there a way using either of these two programs to size the images to 6mb?

Thank you very much!

Yes, PSE has a straightforward "Image Size" function. I'm sure PSP has something very similar.
Um, 6megapixels is still huge! If you are just uploading so other people can view your photos online, even 1mp is too big.
Something like 800x600 pixels (0.48mp) should be plenty.

Well, I looked at both programs and couldn't figure out how to limit the mega byte size of the images to 6mb or less. Out of my Canon A710 IS the images are ~3.5mb. After some post processing they sometimes go over 6mb. I know there must be a way to reduce the mega byte size of the images, but I just cant figure it out.

Thanks

To reduce megabytes, you first have to reduce resolution of the image. The resolution is probably somewhere at 3450x2800 or something. That's extremely large for web viewing. Go to Image > Resize > Image Size in Photoshop Elements. Now for the Width type something like 600 or 500 pixels, and the Height should automatically change. (If it does not change automatically, make sure that "Constrain Proportions" is checked.) Press OK, then go to File > Save As and save as a .JPG file. Now it should ask you the quality you want to save it as, and it should give you an estimate of the ending total size of the file to the right under OK or CANCEL or somewhere on the right...Might be in the middle bottom too. Just look around for small numbers like "200kb" or something. Okay so now click on the bar and bring it down to about 6 or 7. You will lose some quality, but it will drastically reduce your physical size.

Test that out and let us know how it went.
