Does RAW ignore white balance?

I mean the 'white balance' setting in your camera.

Today is the first time I've shot RAW, so I'm not just a newbie-- I've just popped out of the birth canal!

Also what should I use to convert the RAW? For these first shots, I've just clicked the 'edit > convert RAW' button in Zoombrowser, which opened up another program (I think inside Zoombrowser)?

Should I use DPP instead?

DPP is the included RAW convertor from Canon.
No, it doesn't ignore WB because you can still use custom WB and any of the preset WB.
RAW allows you to change change the WB before you convert.

Yes, the plug-in within ZB is called RAW Image Task. It is a somewhat "dummied down" converter, but can be a good starting point for a newbie. DPP has a wider range of controls for when you want to advance. Install it from the bundled disc and then upgrade to the current version (3.0.1.5) from the Canon web site. And then there is a multitude of third party converters waiting to be tried. Raw Therapee, Raw Shooter Essentials, and a lite version of Silkypix are free. Others are Lightroom, Adobe Camera Raw (requires Photoshop), Capture One, Bibble and Lighzone. Aperture if you are on Mac.
