Finally had an op to shoot something other than sports.
Going for a photo journalistic look. Did I achieve it?

Any reason why you focused on the yellow tape rather than the object behind? I think the tape being OOF would've looked better.

Tend to agree, but they are nice shots anyway! The tape just seems to be an intrusive part of the picture covering up the action, in my opinion. Nice touch to have it in the photo...but maybe not so prominent. :)

Ide keep the tape but just have it blurred with background in focus, Other then that they look good.

I actually really like the anonymity of having the tape in focus and the rest OOF. The OOF tape is distracting to me and looks like it's getting in the way. I think the second shot's grand.

I see that you (chrisvl) have a 50 f1.4 on your wish list. You'll love that lens. Another choice would be a 24 f2.8 unless it's to wide for you. Good shots...

I like both variations of focal point. I think you got some nice journalistic flair in them, more in the ones with the tape OOF, the other were more artistic.

Where did you take these shots ? I thought I saw this heli fly over Markham yesterday. It looks like one of the Bandages at first glance.

Prefer the latter of the images, although I could see there being a place for focusing on the tape

I don't have a problem with either OOF. I would have moved the tape lower though so it didn't cut across the middle of the helicopter or other action.

2 Samuel 9:7-8, "So David said to him, “Do not fear, for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore to you all the land of Saul your grandfather; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” Then he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

Any lower and the stretcher gets obscured, any higher and the rescue workers head gear get obscured.

#2 yes, #1 no.
