Mike - Unless I've misunderstood everything I've read over at the Adobe forums, including Thomas Knoll's posts, the culprit is the default noise reduction in the demosaicing algorithms, not sharpening. The only way found so far by others to "turn this off" is to change the EXIF information on your high ISO shots to 100 and fool the algorithm.

Ahhhh, my bad. I think I had two threads confused. :o Since I don't shoot high ISO I guess this is why I never had the problem. ;)

Or you could use 1.1 wihtout any sharpening.

I haven't had the effect that you guys are showing but I can certainly understand how it would be a problem. I prefer the sharpening of 1.1 to that of 1.0 but I don't apply a lot of it either way.

Of course the sharpening is way superior in 1.1 but the problem isnt really related to the sharpening. The problem is in how LR 1.1 handles the noise and you cant turn it off completely.

Even if you set the slider to "0" LR still applies NR to the file, the higher ISO the more NR and its all done in the background. A poor solution at the moment is to fool LR changing the ISO in the metatag but the "effect" still remains though less aggressive on lower ISO images.

Even if you dont shoot high ISO its clearly visible even in mid range ISO images (200-400) and even at ISO 100 in some images its visible if you know what to look for. Detailed backgrounds like leafs, branches, grass etc get this effect (frosted glass is a description that explains it quite well).

On smaller prints in not even visible but as soon as you go up just a bit in size you see it rather clear.

Yes I know that now and had already appologized for my misunderstanding.

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates v 1.0. All I seem to get elsewhere is people raving about how great it is especially the sharpening and noise tags.

Really hope Adobe sort this one out but with so many loving it I'm beginning to doubt it.
