Edit:

When I save the picture(left) to .jpg it saves to a way different colour(right), why is this? I'm not sure if this could be the reason, but the left picture was in 16/bit and then I just switched it over to 8/bit in order to save as .jpg

Sorry folks, this has never happend to me before.

What colour space are you using (sRGB, Adobe RGB)?

Opening the file in different programs can cause things to look different, too... I find the standard Windows viewer makes my shots look shocking whereas in Irfanview they look as they should (shocking or otherwise)...

The web will only display in sRGB I believe so you may need to convert the image to sRGB to view it properly in a web browser.

The only difference is that the left is a 16/bit .psd file and the right is an 8/bit .jpg.
would that be a normal difference then?

When saving as a jpeg you will lose some colour information and i notice differences sometimes, and as you show here, with skintones it's bound to be more noticeable.

These two look 'closer' than the first two you posted though - are they both using the same colourspace?

yea, those two do look closer. When I saved that particular one I believe I unchecked 'layers' under save options. the only things checked in were 'prophoto rgb' and 'as a copy'

I understand and have noticed the differences in colour chance between .psd and .jpg files, but this is quite drastic . Do you think it is just because of the way the photo was processed that it looks much different when saved as .jpg?

That would be my guess.

I guess I'll have to live with it.

I really liked that photo too. The small shot does not show it, but it is similar to the dragonizer.

If you need to keep colours as you edit them you may be better off saving as psd or tif, although these files are obviously much larger. Another factor is the fact that jpegs are 8bit.
Saving at min compression/max quality jpeg (12) will be better than any lower setting (8 or 10 for instance)

Try this: In photoshop, have your PSD file open that is using the AdobeRGB. Don't flatten it or merge the layers. Do a select all and then Copy Merged. Now create a new document and paste in the copy.

In the new document go to Edit menu and "Convert to Profile". Convert it to sRGB and then save it as a JPG.

Now view them side by side.

Thanks guys. Now the only difference I can see is the usual one that shows up when converting .psd to .jpg.

The image was submitted into people for C&C if any of you are interested to see a larger version.
