Anyone have any experience with this lens. Anyone have any examples of photos taken with this lens. I like taking close up shots of insects and plants and was wondering if the quality of this lens is worth the price. Thanks.

"is the quality worth the price?"
In my opinion not unless you do ALOT of serious work with it.Because macro is such a subject driven genre,it's not all that hard for a cheap lens pic to be better than one with a super great lens.A flat field is no good with an insect either

There are actually allternatives to this specialist lens also. The EFs 18-55 is very similar in magnification when reversed! :D
Sure it's no fun handholding it reversed but it can be done.
The better way is to buy the lens reversing kit for about us$350

(?sorry can't remember right now but a google search will quickly find it)

I have both the MPE 65macro and the 100macro F2.8. IMHO the 100 is much more useful and does the job 90% of the time. However if you are a REALLY SERIOUS macro photographer the MPE65 will give you shots that you could only otherwise get shooting through a microscope.! Be aware also that the focal distances are REALLY short with the MPE65. Good Luck.

Thanks for the information. Do you have any photos with the MPE-65 you could share. It sounds like a nice lens, but very much a specialty lens.

The MPE-65 lens is covered in this review (external link), and you can see many examples of the pictures it produces here (external link).
This lens can do some wonderful things if used properly ...

Best wishes,
Oleg.

Oleg,

Good information in the article. I think I will stick with my Sigma 105mm macro for now unless a good buy comes up on a used one of these.
