Getting rid of things

I know this is basic Photoshop skills, but my skills are rusty. Can someone give me some pointers on getting rid of the shoe in the right corner? I once did something similar by somehow creating a duplicate layer, moving the bottom layer and poking a hole through with white paintbrush, but totally forget how I did this. I know I could use the stamp, but I always find that clumsy for large items I want to get rid of. Help please!

Just clone/stamp it out of the photo.

A 15 second example.

Select the area you want to copy from, feather your selection and press Ctrl+J to copy it to a new layer. move it over the object you want to cover. OR you can do it the easy way and clone it out. Why make it harder than it has to be? Just watch your texture and make sure the lines dont break.
