Personally I've never taken it on a plane, but looking at the size of the bag and the limits it should just about fit, but it is pretty close.

thanks,

had a look at easyjet's website - they allow 55x40x20cm and that bag is 47x33x23cm - should be able to squash it in ;)

Did you get the XXL (750) and did Easyjet allow you to take it onboard?

I'm hoping to take a 5D with grip, 17-40mm, 70-200mm f/2.8, 100mm macro and 50mm, 550EX and some filters (screw-on Hoyas and a Lee set), P5000, CFs, chargers and cables etc over to Santorini (with Thomson) on Wednesday. Cables and chargers might well go in checked luggage, along with a mini-tripod.

I've already got a Lowepro Slingshot 300, which all the kit fits into, and which is also a couple of cm too big in one dimension, but under in the others, but while the Slingshot might be OK for UK use, it does make my back hot when it's warmer, and I end up carrying it by the top handle half the time. I thought a messenger bag style might be easier, and the Daily looks very flexible with the removable photo pouch.

Anyone know if the XXL is roughly the same size kit-wise as the Slingshot 300?

Thanks.

Canon 5D + grip, 17-40mm f/4, 70-200mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 macro, lensbaby, and far too many accessories and bags!

Hi,

I bought an XXL but sent it back and got the XL. The XXL is absolutely HUUUGE! The XL fits within easyjets carry on luggage dimensions - I had no probs either side...but lumping 25kgs of gear around an airport is not enjoyable.
I wish I'd bought a roller type of the same dimensions.:D

Thanks! I'm flying off tomorrow, so I'll be going ot the airport later today. Unfortunately, being away means being crazy busy at work, so time being short I've only just had chance to log back in to check this thread.

Being short in time, I blind-ordered a XXL from Park and it's waiting at home for me. It's slightly over Thomson's size in one dimension, but I rang them and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I hope they're right... ;-)a

Thanks for the info.

Thanks to the OP for the review. One thing I couldn't quite work out was whether the laptop sleeve is in the main bag or the removal photo bucket? I'd like to be able to use one of these for work and play... work use would include the laptop... sorry if I've overlooked the obvious with this question.

Second question is about sizing. For those using either the XL or XXL, how would you rate the size of the bag for non photo applications? I.e. if the XXL was being used as a general messenger style bag, would you still regard it as being as 'oversized' as everyone seems to imply, or is that perspective more in terms of carrying photo gear?

thanks to all.

The laptop section is in the main part of the bag, so if the photo bucket is removed you still have the option to carry a laptop.

I would consider it oversized as a general carry bag yes, it's more the sort of size bag I'd expect to take away for a week with clothes etc. in not an every day carry type bag.

Thanks Simwells and BBrat,
thinking I might go for the XL, but good to know the laptop can be carried independently of the bucket...

Hi all after several months using the daily xxl, i can confirm that in my experience Ryanair have never asked me to weigh or check in mine and I fly between the UK and France most weekends.

If I take the insert out and just put my 30D with 70-200L attached (on the bag floor with a little bubble wrap under it) + the padded tube with my kit lens, 50mm 1.8 & kenko 1.4x extender inside one inner pocker, flash, charger, shades and a few spare cards in another, I can and have fitted 2 laptops in for travel on the plane.

Hurt my shoulder after a while but the airline staff never batted an eyelid.

In fact I am sat at the airport now the above (only one laptop though) heading to France for the weekend : )

The detachable insert is great, because I can fill the bag for travel in the boot of the car & to and from the house (only 1 bag to carry), and then select what I need for my shoot and leave the insert with the rest in the boot of the car.

I do find it a bit much on the shoulder after a while with 2 bodies in, especially when I have the 170-500mm on one of them.

All in all I love the flexibility of the bag, especially as it does not scream "CAMERA" when over my shoulder wandering around a city centre.

I would thoroughly recommend it and am now looking for one those golf bag double shoulder straps that allow a bag to hang on one side of the body, but strap over both shoulders to spread the weight, then I think it would be perfect.

Current kit - 30D, 350D, 50mm F1.8, 70-200mm L F4, Sigma 170-500mm F5.6, Kit lens, Kenko 1.4 & 2.0 TC, Sigma Flash + enthusiasm by the bucket load (17-40L & battery grip next on my shopping list)

My apologies for necro'ing this topic, but information on any Crumpler kit is basically non-existent as far as I can see. I've currently got a bag which is proving to be a bit small, and have been looking at the 'Daily'. Obviously I don't want to just buy something similarly too small, so was wondering if anyone with this bag would be able to tell me if I'd be able to get all my kit in there?

I've got a 30D, 24-105, 100 macro, 10-20 and 70-200 (this causes the problem) and all the normal acoutraments like lens caps and filter boxes. Should I be able to get it all comfortably in the Daily (with room for a bit of possible expansion, and assuming that the Camera always has any one of the lenses attached)? I know it'll be a bit of a guestimate, but it'll be better than going by pictures!

Thanks,

Yeah you'd comfortabley get all that in there with room to spare, could probably get that all into a Daily XL or maybe even a Daily L.

it looks like crumpler daily xl is the perfect bag for me but unfortunately none in the us and its ridiculously expensive getting it imported over here.
