Due to the lack of reviews and information on Crumpler bags particularly the European models, I have decided to review the two which I personally own.

This review will look at my newest acquisition the Crumpler Pretty Boy XXXL (7500), I bought this bag a while back when my kit list was shorter and would carry all of my kit at that time, it’s a compact size smaller than most messenger/school type bags but will still take a reasonable amount of kit.

First things first the size specs of the bag as stated by Crumpler are:

External: 30x18x14cm

It’s available in 4 colour schemes; White Grey / Orange, Blood Red / Silver, Dull Black / Orange and Black Olive / Beige.

I chose to buy the Dull Black / Orange as at the time the black olive / beige was not yet out and so I went with my personal second best.

It’s very well made to Crumpler’s usual high durable standards and protects everything being carried very well.

On to the basic design..

The design is pretty rounded and is very comfortable to carry though my only gripe is the cushioning for the strap tends to slide around a lot. Also it does use a large noisy patch of Velcro and a quick release buckle to hold the main flap closed, this tends to be very loud to open.

For it’s size a surprising amount of kit will actually fit into it, in the following photos it is shown with a 30D with BG-E2 attached and a 28-80 attached, a Sigma 10-20, Canon 100-300, Canon 50mm 1.8, Stack of Kenko extension tubes, bulb blower and spare body and lens caps in the main compartment.

If a larger lens is needed to be transported it will stick take a longer lens up to a 70-200 f2.8 L IS detached from camera as shown in the following pictures, with a gripped 30D with 28-80 attached, Sigma 10-20 and bulb blower and spare caps in the main compartment.

There is also a front pouch with space for a few batteries memory cards lens cloths / tissues pens notepad etc.

Finally for size reference here’s a shot of me with the bag (I’m 6’ 2-3”)

Overall I have been very happy with this bag it takes a surprisingly large amount of kit considering the general size of it, and also has the benefit of looking very non-descript so shouldn’t acquire unwanted attention.

Thanks simwells for the review.

I bought the slingshot 300 but is too big for "normal" use. So based on your review have just purchased the pretty boy 7500 (xxxl). I wanted the olive colour but no where seems to have it in stock - even phoned warehouse express today and they said they are still waiting to get some in stock from May - so have bought the black / orange version.

I had the same problem originally and found out that at that time it had not yet been released, after a couple of sites letting me order them and then telling me they didn't have stock.

I hope you enjoy it, it's ideal for my smaller bag.

I'm kind of interested in this bag - but from the photo I can't help feeling the kit looks a bit 'thrown in' - I'm used to my Lowe CompuTrekka where everything is carefully separated.

Doesn't the camera body being on top of the lenses bash things around alot? And the 70-200L looks a bit precarious :)

The padding is stopping the camera body from touching the other lenses so no they don't bash around unless I guess you wanted to shake it around a lot or something. But yeah I'd agree with the 70-200L comment personally if I was to use this bag and carry that lens I'd add a bit more padding.

Hello. Could you please test if the bag Pretty Boy XXXL could hold a Canon 40D + EF-S 17-55 mm F2.8 IS with hood on (normal position, not reversed) sitting on the camera's left side (grip upwards) (about 23,5 cm ~ 24 cm) and a 70-200 mm F4 IS vertically on the side? I think the 70-200 will have to sort of stay within the EF-S's hood - I don't know if a lens divider is long enough to be attached with both ends on the Pretty Boy's right side if you get the ideea. Also, how many dividers are supplied with the bag? Can a 430EX flash fit in the exterior pocket?

I don't have either of the lens listed, but I'll have a look at measurements and things in a few days and double check. But it doesn't sound like it would, do you mean like the camera facing into the bag with the 70-200 next to it, almost making the 17-55 and 70-200 into a long tube?

Saw this review and went looking for a price on the internet. Seems it's only on UK sites. One of them had this to say:

"The Pretty Boy Maxi comes in four different colours and is exactly the same as The Pretty Boy Mini except it´s way bigger, has internal dividers and looks totally different. You can get The Pretty Boy Maxi in five different sizes M, L, XL, XXL and XXXL. We call these American sizes because these are the exact same sizes that Americans come in"

Found that pretty funny

If you look at the picture you will get the ideea. Replace the Nikon lense with the 70-200 mm F4 IS (it's a normal position for the lense, right?) and replace the nikon camera sitting on the side (although I would put it reversed so I have the grip of the camera on the top so, if I open the bag, I can pull out the camera by grabbing the grip) with the 40D + 17-55mm + hood mounted normally. It may be different from the standard camera+lense facing down (bassicaly sitting on the lense) setup but that's how I would use it :) Bottom line - 17- 55 sits horrizontally and 70- 200 vertically (just like your 70-200 F2.8 ) so no tube there :)
PS: How many dividers/paddings come with the bag? + Don't forget the 430 EX flash in the exterior pocket .
PPS: Further details :) My concern is about the 70-200mm F4 IS if it can be wrapped by the padding and sit within the empty space of the 17-55's hood.

Just checked and the answer would be no, my gripped 30D with 70-200 (2.8 IS) fits in horizontally but only just so, the 70-200 f4 IS being 25mm shorter would be about ideal fit for just the camera and that lens, could easily fit a 430EX in the front pocket though.

Right double checked and you might just about be able to fit it with the hood reversed but it would be a very tight fit, definately not with the hood in shooting position.

Are you sure ? The crumpler site says interior space is 30 cm long. 40D + 17- 55 F 2.8 + hood is 23,5 cm and 70 - 200 F4 IS is about 8 cm wide. And I was betting that some of that 8 cm wide would fit in the empty space of the hood, since the hood is very big and could manage to a total of 30 cm.

Nah just did a double check and I can just fit my Sigma 150 (same diameter as the 70-200 f4 roughly) and my gripped 30D with my old 28-80 USM Mk I which has a very small hood. The total of the 30D with 28-80 and hood is roughly 16cm.

The problem comes from the fact that the bag is trapezium shaped and 30cm is the length of the base and a gripped camera is actually slightly larger than the height of the trapezium so stretches it giving you wasted space that can't be used.
