Ok, these are my first concert pics - here's the story, they wouldn't let me take my kit in so I took my powershot G7...I'm happy with th way the pics came out but I was limited in what I could do from angle and distance.

Oh, this is the Brad Paisley concert from last night

C&C are always welcome.

Oops, I accidentally spelled amateur - tried to fix it but oh well

Hey there Mr Toys - unfortunately this series of shots doesn't do much for me... they are exactly as described point and shoot shots from the crowd. Not trying to be harsh but I'll run through why they don't work for me.

For starters you are better off posting all the images in one post rather than a heap of multiple posts - just makes it easier to view the set.

#1 - OOF (Out of Focus), soft and WB (white balance seems out of adjustment) - composition could be greatly improved by cropping into portrait orientation to lose the black empty space in the foreground - I'd crop just to the right of the cowboy hat being held up and just to the left of the hand in the air. If the focus was right that type of composition would make it a good shot.

#2 - Again the same problems as #1 but also he has his arm covering his face - doesn't work for me at all.

#3 - Would work better if it was more tightly cropped as the performers are totally lost in all the space around. Again OOF, soft and WB problems.

#4 - The best of the set but same comments as for #1 apply. Lose the screen and all the empty foreground.

#5 & 6 - Same comments as #1

I agree with every single thing you said...problem is I was very limited with shutter speed when it came to focus. Heck, I had to drop exposure down mor than I care to admit just to be able to get it this steady ;)

I've tried the cropping, but the lens on the G7 has no where near the capabilities to adjust shutter speed and exposure to crop that much. I know, I've tried

These would have been cropped a gazillion times closer if I had my Mk2n and my glass, but alas that was not allowed.

I do appreciate the C&C, I'm going to be in the pit for a friend's band soon and I will keep these in mind.

I've tried that but I can't figure out how to inlcude multiple pics in one thread...my wife keeps telling me I'm a little slow ;)

Yeah. I would have to say that compacts just don't handle low light very well.

Shame you couldn't get your SLR in there. You could have just been happy to see then eh :D

I actually like the motion in the first image. Singer seems to be (about) sharp.
Quite nice. Needs a bit of a crop, but I'ld definately keep it 'landscape'.
#4 is nice as well if you crop it portrait (I'ld probabely crop off the screen) : Great collection of hats ;)

I really like number 2 (given where you were located). Gives a great sense of atmosphere of the show.

Mdrtoys, you're a funny guy... I can tell by your attempts to post... You are soooooo close, but still need to read up on the process...

Try reading the Stickys at the top of the forum page... Also do a search within this forum for Avatar's... it will help you size it to the maximum allowed...

You just need to do it right once and it will be all down hill from there...

To post 8 pics in one thread posting, you'll need to use a third party picture storage service... Most offer a free start... I started out with photobucket.com... You export your photos to photobucket, file it there, and than just copy the link of the photo and paste it into your posting window... While at it, number them #1 through #8... That way we will be able to address the individual images.

I like the pics in posts # 3 and #4.

Don't use "inset image"... Instead just copy the link from smugmug and paste it into your post, as if it was text... Try it and "Preview Post" to see how you're doing...
(You can paste in 8 links to 8 photos... Just one link per line and put a # between lines...
