This is total BS! Canon makes it so the kit lens for the Rebel won't fit on my Elan. Otherwise I would have a cheap wide-angle lens (18mm). I know what some of you are thinking: it's not a full-frame sensor. But I held it up to the camera, and it would fill at least 80% of the sensor, leaving some small black corners. It would work, but Canon designs it so you have to fork out a bunch of cash for wide-angle lenses. I suppose I could take a hacksaw and cut off the plastic ring that sticks out....

That's not their intent. But many see it that way for some reason.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Yeah, that does kind of suck not being able to put a $100 lens on your camera. Are you interested in any FD lenses? I have about $2,000 worth I'd sell you.

The FD lenses won't fit my EOS. :-) Although I heard something about adapters.

I *suppose* there *might* be a good reason for adding that extra doodly-do plastic thingy that stops the EF-S from going onto my 35mm. Any ideas....

Some DSLR's have a smaller sensor than the area that your Elan uses for film, therefore Canon have made some lenses that have a smaller image circle than the EF lenses

I'm just trying to find someone to take my 35mm gear off my hands. Heck, even B&H wasn't interested. It's all collecting dust. Very painful. Very painful...

You'll have a better chance at winning the Power Ball.

Well, the ugliest thing I did was to drill a 2" hole into an EOS body cap and duct-tape it to a FD flange from a cannibalized 2x teleconverter. This went onto my FD 100mm f/4 macro and Autobellows, and then onto my Rebel XT. This was my very first digital macro lens and it produced very nice images.

But I'm done hacking. I'll just give the 35mm gear to one of my children some day. You realize how old you are when you're chatting with your buddies about your favorite albums and one of your children asks you "Daddy, what's an album?"

They did that because you can shatter the mirror of a full frame (or film) camera by mounting an EF-S lens to it.

I am sure Canon developed the EF-S lens mount and lenses simply to extort a few more bucks from you, after all, they are only a multi billion dollar company, and could certainly use every last penny they could squeeze from you. Actually, there is a real reason why they developed the mount and lenses to go with it, you can read up on it in the forums, it has been posted many times before. I am not going to go to the effort to find it, but I am sure someone will post it for you shortly.

Personally, I think mirrors are overrated for SLRs. Good riddance.

Not wise. The mirror will hang up on the back of the lens.

Replace "hang up" with "crash into" and this would be more correct.

Don't know if it is the same issue as with my d30 and 10D but if so you can just remove the internal baffle (fill it with epoxy), saw off the protruding length and put it back and it'll work just fine.

just don't set it down on the table with the lens extending from the rear as in the photo
