Hi all, after waiting over a year I just got my 5D and grip on Friday. While I am trilled with the IQ and camera itself, I am a little unhappy with the feel of the grip. I notice a small movement between the grip and the body of the camera, a little creaky flex to be exact. The grip is original Canon and not an after market one so I really didn’t expect this, especially since I never noticed anything like it with my 10D and grip. Has anyone else noticed this? I’ve thought of putting some thin rubber or tape between the grip and the camera but considering the fact that both are brand new I feel I shouldn’t need to go to such extremes.

Glad to hear about your purchase coming through. My 5D and its grip is a nice, snug fit. There is very little play at all, although after extended use, I tend to have to tightened the grip's locking wheel thingy a bit.

I had that problem with the 20D and grip, and solved it with a bit of tape as you describe. Mind you, the 20D grip was notorious for being loose.

I'd just do whatever needs to be done - you can't feel confident about the handling with a sloppy grip!

Thats the way of the "grips'
they are add ons.
you could try some tape.
personally I don't use the "grip"
But some like them.

I don't have any movement with my 5D and grip at all. I had experienced the same situation with my 30D and grip. Just one of those things you have to live with.

I found that I had to do the same thing with my 20D + grip after some extended use with it. I would imagine the same would happen with using my 5D and grip (when I do eventually purchase it).

To the OP, you may find yourself getting used to it after awhile. Even though it may feel a bit odd now.

What you could do, go to a hobby store get a two-component rubber, mix up a small amount (you get a gel/liquid) add a bit on to the grip and connect the camera, after it dries you get a perfect seal but it is not glued on to the body/grip. Just cut the extras that are hanging out and you got your seld a molded perfect seal.

p.s.
Sorry about my bad English.

Interesting idea. Seems to me that if you were going to go that route then Blue Silicone RTV also know as form a gasket would be something that might also work and be a non-permanent solution.

I've had my 20D+Grip for over 2 years, it always was a bit wobbly but would really work loose after using tripod. My friends 5D+Grip has no play at all and no problem. Last month I bought a small tube of Black silicon sealer, I put it on the outer edge of the mateing surface of battery grip, may have devalued it slightly, but the solid feel is great, no wobble at last.

I just checked to be sure, but my grip is on rock-solid and there is no noticeable play. You might have a faulty thread on the grip mount. No matter, you should have it checked out...for that type of cash that should never happen:confused:

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I'm currently overseas and have no access to a camera shop so having it checked is not possible. I like the form-a-gasket and rubber ideas, but also agree, for the money I spent I should not have this problem and like I stated I have a 10D and grip which I have used for about 4 years and never once experienced this. I will probably try one of the ideas above to get a better feel until I can get it checked. BTW the thumb screw is as tight as I can possibly get it.
