...so after a few slides, the slideshow will suddenly revert back to the first photo in the slideshow, without finishing the sequence. Wondering if any other users have had this experience?

I have found a couple of bugs in the slideshow module. Next time that happens click Ctrl+D (select none) then click Ctrl+A (select all). Then hit play. All the images in your film strip should play. If they don't, try restarting lightroom.

Hope it helps:)

Karl - thanks for the tip! I actually tried both of your suggestions, without success. Although the slideshow seems to be getting further along each time! :)

There are two types of slideshows, the slideshow in the slideshow module and the impromptu slideshow available in the library module. Which are you having trouble? They both act differently as one plays only selected files (impromptu) while the other plays all files (slideshow module). Also, make sure that there are no filters on as that might affect the outcome.

Select all of the files in Grid mode, and go to Library > Previews > Render Standard Previews. Wait until it's finished and then try again - it could fall over if it's trying to render previews as it goes along - a slideshow would usually be done after all of the developing etc, and would therefore usually have previews already rendered.

I really appreciate the tips...
Mike - I'm not sure how to do the impromptu slideshow... I have always just picked the collection I wanted to show, then gone to the slideshow module from there.

Victoria - I tried your suggestion, and it still has the same problem. Although it did manage to go a little farther through the slideshow this time :) It's almost like there's a buffer that fills up (maybe that's what you mean by falling over?)
Also, I'm not sure when it's done rendering standard-sized previews...

If you've selected all, and used the Library > Previews > Render Standard Previews command, it'll show in the progress bar top left (it'll disappear when the previews are all rendered too).

Thanks Victoria... I tried that, as well as rebooting...same results. It also appears that sharpening done in Develop module doesn't appear in Slideshow module...

Very odd - what size files Stephen? And machine specs? Sharpening - yeah, you're probably right, sharpening only applies on 1:1 size previews. May be something to look at for a future update though.

The files are all 8mp RAW or DNG files from a 30D. Running a MacBook Pro 2.1 ghz with OS X (10.4.10)

So, I actually rendered all the previews 1:1, and it made it all the way through the slideshow! Go figure...

Thats good news. In the Windows version if you don't render them all 1:1 before running the slide show it will still display the images but they wont be fully sharp (blurred). There are so many differences between the way the Mac's run lightroom and the windows version. One thing that is for certain with the windows version is if I choose to covert to DNG the initial import takes a few seconds longer but after the import the pictures render about twice as fast while working in lightroom. I am convinced that DNG is the way to go when working with lightroom.

Since you used a collection you shouldn't have to worry about viewing images that you don't want to, like 0 star shots for instance. The Impromptu slideshow is great to view the images in the Library module. Select all of the shots you want to view, then press CTRL + Enter or select Window > Impromptu Slideshow.

PS, glad you got it working.

...so after a few slides, the slideshow will suddenly revert back to the first photo in the slideshow, without finishing the sequence. Wondering if any other users have had this experience?

I ran into the same bug. Using Lightroom 1.0, my slideshow worked fine. Immediately after installing 1.1, the same slideshow jumped back to the first slide at random points in the slide sequence.

I spent several hours experimenting with workarounds and finally discovered that the Impromptu Slideshow command on the Window menu didn't have the same bug. I could select all the slides in the grid, run Impromptu Slideshow, and go through the correct sequence without a problem.

This was immediately after 1.1 was released. Now that seven days have gone by and I see that at least one other person ran into the same problem, I decided to try the Slideshow module again. Now it's working, without jumps. I don't know why.

As a side note, some of the Slideshow options are thoroughly baffling. There is a Play, Run Slideshow command; a Play, Run Slideshow with Selected Photos command; and a Play, Which Photos command with Use Selected Photos and Use All Available Photos subcommands. Huh? Why so many options? How do they interact? What does "all available photos" mean?

But I digress. If it's relevant to anyone, I'm running Lightroom 1.1 on Vista Ultimate.

Thanks Mike!

Photofan - those are interesting observations. I'm also curious about the play options. Something else I was noticing as well - when I have my name (watermark) on the pictures of the slideshow, lightroom won't allow the font size to be changed. Even if I change the font size, once the slideshow begins playing, the font is always the same size (large).
