I just got a Canon s410 and its making a noise that Im not sure its supposed to make. When I press the shutter button it makes a little vibrating/rattling/purring sound. When I turn the camera on Quick shot, it doesnt make the sound. I dont know if it is part of the focusing or if the mechanism is jacked. thanks to anyone who has an answer.

After trying it myself with an S410, it seems to make the same noise regardless of whether Quick Shot is on or off.

Not being able to "hear" your noise, I suspect you are just hearing your S410 focus -- you hold down the shutter halfway and it seeks focus then you push all the way and take your pic.

In Quick Shot mode, the S410 is already set in something like a hyperfocal mode thus you don't hear the focusing noises.

Have seen a rash of paranoid queries on 3 forums about S400/S410/S500 lens noises in the past few days.

I suspect both of your cams are just fine -- enjoy 'em!
