I'm on a mac and bought a Compact Flash reader so I can just pop my card in and transfer. I'm using Finder to transfer my pics. When I do a copy / paste onto my harddrive and then select all from CF disk that it mounts it says it deletes the photos but the space for them is still allocated.

Example.. I have a 2gig card, take 300mb of pics, I delete all the pics on the disk but the "get info" still says 300mb is being used.

any ideas?

thanks!

I should add that I have to reformat the card in my camera to get the space back.

Deleting files on a Mac just files them in the Trash. To get your space back, you still have to empty the Trash. Or is that not the answer? :)

the trash is on the local machine, I'm looking to get the space back on the card. I couldn't imagine the CF card and trash are linked, but maybe?

I'm not sure about the Apple O/S, but on as Windows machine, you should not use Windows Explorer to delete files on the CF card. It is a simple operation to just select erase all files when the card is in the camera. Also, if you format the card, use the camera to do it.

The Trash icon is on the local machine, but the drive space is on the physical drive. You have to empty Trash when the CF card is mounted (on any machine for that matter).

There is anecdotal evidence that erasing the files on a CF card will or could corrupt the card.

The best procedure is to re-format the card in the camera as noted by Bill Boehme, do not erase the files
