Is it possible to compare the two? I hear a lot of good references to bare bulb flashes. I wonder if the effect would be comparable with a B800 sans reflector?

I don't see what the difference between a bare bulb flash and a studio light without a reflector is - at least in terms of the light generating part.

To use my Quantum QFlash X5d-R bare bulb, I don't fit a reflector or other modifier. The Bare Bulb Enhancer is best described as a half cylinder reflector which you use to channel the light into a 180 degree spread (or not into your eyes if you're wanting bare bulb flash from your bracket!).
