Romeo,
I am not an authority on GL1's but I thought my experience with the same problem might help you some.
Put the camera in "Camera" mode.
Go into the menu. Now scroll down in the menu until you see "wind screen". Set it to "on". Right below that line is the words "mic att". Set that to "on" as well.
The problem with the audio popping and distorting is that the GL1 comes with audio autolevel. The camera automatically adjusts the audio level as it records and unfortunately it is not user adjustable except for the menu settings that I mentioned.
If you are sending more signal than the camera can adjust to, then it distorts. The "mic att" is a microphone attenuator and will reduce the amount of audio level.
If your your audio is "popping" then the "wind screen" will help that out. It basically is a rumble filter that reduces audio responce at lower frequencies (bass).
I recently shot in the worst (acoustically) auditorium in the southeast U.S. The acoustics in this auditorium are so bad (reverb/echo) that a sound person could use 1 audio cabinet with a 12" woofer and 1/2" horn to FILL up the auditorium with sound pushing maybe 100 watts. No joke, it's that bad.
The first video I shot in there had the same problems with bass responce that your band is having. The kick drum parts from the P.A. system caused incessant popping on the tape. Fortunately, I shoot with two GL1's and the other camera's sound track was better (shooting from farther back). After setting my camera as above, my most recent video came out fine.
Hope that helps some.

I just bought a gl1 and I am not video pro. But I am in a band and have been trying to take some video of live shows and its always way too poppy and it distorts. Is there anything I can do in the settings to make the mic less sensitive I guess. Anyone with any suggestions please email me as well. thanks.
