Here is Max taken from about 30+ feet away using my Canon 70-300 mm telephoto lens with 'IS'. I cranked it all the way out to 300 mm and then snapped the shot. How is the sharpness and detail on a scale of 1 thru 10?

1/320th sec shutter, F 6.3, 500 ISO and focal length 300 mm.

I haven't been able to get consistent sharpness shooting pics of small birds.

I would say 8-9 ! I am sure the IS heps alot, but nothing beats a tripod and remote shutter.
