I just picked up a new laptop recently and I am trying to get my 1D (MKI, Classic) to talk to it but I'm getting all kinds of errors. Has anyone been able to get the downloadable TWAIN drivers working with Windows Vista?

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer...

Pretty sure you need to install a USB WIA Driver and uninstall twain. If I remember correctly Twain is not compatible with Vista or XP.
Try this link.

TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

I use my 1D on my MACS or I would install it and try it for you on my PC.

An easy workaround is get a card reader. and forget about drivers and all that nonsense. Its about a million time faster than downloading the pics directly from the 1D and you don't have to screw around with or worry about software compatibility with VISTA or anyother operating system.

You still need to connect up if you want to add your name to the camera or sync the clock with your computer. Very handy if you have more than one camera body...sync the clocks with the computer so all your images are chronological.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Excellent point, well taken!

do you have the EOS Viewer Utility installed on the VISTA machine? and if so, does it run? i believe that if the VU will run, you shouldn't have a problem as long as you've got the firewire port.

btw, the ability to set personal functions, load firmware updates, custom tone curves, etc all require EOS VU, so i'd be interested in knowing whether you're able to run it in VISTA, too.
