Newbie photos from Yosemite - C&C please....

I think these are my two favorite pics from this weeks family trip. Being a family trip, I really didn't get to dictate a schedule around optimal lighting and was able to grab pics when I could. Please let me know what you think and thanks in advance for taking the time.

I like the first image very much - the dead limb is really fascinating.

You might want to reduce some of the brightness or boost the contrast a bit - the mid-day sun can be really harsh in Yosemite Valley.

I really like halfdome05.jpg, it would make a kicken b/w too.

The other one it might just be the jpg compression but it looks soft.

I played around with the gray point in Photoshop Elements, reducing it to about .90, which kept the color and toned it down the brightness a bit. Unfortunatley, I can't upload it right now, but you should get the same thing if you can play with levels somehow.

Here it is. The change wasn't dramatic so it might not show up as well as it did on my screen. If you have a program that can play with shadows and brightness, like Aperture, then you might lose some of the hotspots on the branch.
