Thanks a ton!

Viky

I'm glad I could help (am sober now), it looks your getting better results than i am, I might have to clean the sensor on mine as well.

Did yours come with a case, and the wide difussor panel?
It clips over the front of the flash head.

So long and thanks for all the flash

Hi! Moppie, I realise that this is an old, perhaps dead string. But being even older (68yoa) hope neither of us are yet quite dead. Like Viky's Dad, I also bought a T70 + 277T in the mid 80's. I am now looking at an S5IS for my next and final upgrade. Will the 277T work on the S series? I am only a point & shoot person, without the skills, or time to learn much more.
In reading your old string. I picked up that the 277T has a trigger voltage of 4.8v. So hope I am not risking damaging to the S5.
If you are still on line, and have the time. I would much appreciate any advise, suggestions or guidelines, in simple terms. That may allow me to get some service & use from the 277T. I really can,t afford a new flash on top of the S5 purchase. Regards dump old fart

Hello dumb old Fart, neither myself or the thread are dead, and hopefully won't be for some time yet. At the very least I would like to be old enough to one day call myself a dumb old fart.

I have not used, nor even seen a S5IS, but my understanding is they work with the EX series of speedlites to give ETT-L auto flash exposure which means they have a standard Canon hot shoe.

With the low trigger voltage of the 277T I see no reason then why it wouldn't work on an S5IS.
Just remember you will have to use the S5 in manual, the same as your old T70.

I have one of these kicking around back home.

Would this flash work with a Digital Rebel Xti?

I did read the full thread. I missed the reference to voltages when using with a "digital" camera.

Thanks for the pointer. Hope I didn't come across lazy, just tired eyes :)

Well, it will work on any EOS camera, G series, or the new S series with a hotshoe.

But, you will need to shoot in manual.

If you don't know how to shoot manual flash, or to shoot with an auto thyristor (which is auto flash, manual camera) then there are plenty of threads in the stickies that will teach you how.

Thanks Moppie,

Yah i've read a little about syncing up the setting's on your external flash unit and your camera.

Sounds pretty straight forward.

I think i'll be going for E-TTL since i'm fairly new to this.

Thanks for your help

Thanks Moppie. I'm 69 in Oct. My Father was born in Taihape. Grandparents had the general store at Utiku. He & his brother were the first to reach Napier after the big quake in the 20's. Heared relay of naval vessel's report on the radio and went down the Gentle Anne track on an Indian motorbike. Stayed 3 weeks helping with the clean-up. I'm in Qld. So regularly get crist as a picket on OP cane juice. I owe you one if you get to Bris.

A gumboot thrower from what back aye?

This board is filled with Kiwis and Ausies, if you check the members activities forum I am pretty sure there is an active group in Brisie.

Hope the flash works well, don't waste it on the cane toads though.

Thanks a million Moppie in teaching me how to use this flash. I just got this flash from one of my uncles. His friend had one lying around the house. I just got it a few hours ago and absolutely had no clue how to use it and after reading this i took some great photographs. Thanks a bunch. Cheers from Pakistan! \m/
