For those of you who dont know our part of alaska is a rain forest. We dont get hardly any snow but we get crap loads of rain, and average of 15 feet a year to be exact. In fact 2 years ago it rained 6 inches on the 4th of July....LOL...anyway, its not a place for the weak of mind or heart...

This July 4th it was about 50 degrees F, and it drizzled off and on during the parade. We all went out and had a good time anyways...here are some of my snap shots...

1.Nothing really jumps out at you in this picture until you look closely and see that this baby is wrapped in plastic....LOl

2.My nephew enjoying the parade as it passes by the car window...

3. Some friends and their dogs...
IMAGE: http://superdiver.smugmug.com/photos/169911504-L.jpg

4.Feeling patriotic...
IMAGE: http://superdiver.smugmug.com/photos/169911833-L.jpg

5.Every year our bag pipers show off their stuff...always a hit up here..
IMAGE: http://superdiver.smugmug.com/photos/169924706-L.jpg

6.One of the kids on my kids swim team float...
IMAGE: http://superdiver.smugmug.com/photos/169928068-L.jpg

7.More patriotism

8.Now this really says Ketchikan, something you see everyday, he is NOT part of the parade, just riding his bike, drinking his "coffee" (probably why he has to ride the bike), and enjoying the day....

Great series - thanks for sharing. Looks like you guys take drastic measures to stay dry;) The baby in wrapped in plastic is classic.

The kids who grow up here will wear no coat or boots, and be standing in the rain waiting for a school bus in a mini skirt and tank top and not think twice about it...LOL

Heck, my kids can only handle a couple of days of sun before they start complaining....

Great smile in #2... Anyone read this months National Geographic? There's an article about logging in Alaska... Funny how I'd never heard about Ketchikan before I read the article earlier, and now I see these pictures from exactly that place.

My parents went on a few Alaska cruises (they live just east of Vancouver) and videotaped them for me. I swear, the ONLY place in Alaska I really want to see one day is Ketchikan. It just reminded of a scene from Paint Your Wagon..... So beautiful!

Love the girl with the Pipi Longstocking hairdo. :o)

What were they saying about the loggin, they couldnt say much cuz the crasy greenies have all but shut it down....LOL

I like the town for all the obviousl reasons, but I like it when compared to other SE towns in that it is easier to get in and out of as the planes are more predictable here, at least in my experience they have been.

It is a beautiful place, small, usually quiet, friendly and a great place to raise a family..

If ever either of you do come up I would love to meet you. I try to meet as many people as I can whom I have met online...

Great images. Particularly like #6 and 7.
How do you manage to post so many images? Are they 'attached' or 'embedded'? As you can tell, I don't actually know the difference! All I can do is attach images with the limit of 2.

Thanks for the lovely series. I walked away feeling like I know a little bit about the people of Ketchikan!

Dave, was wondering if you got out shooting on July 4th.

Great shots. I've always enjoyed your "face in the crowd" shots, and there's some excellent ones here. Particularly a fan of #8, I think it's the contrast between the crusty-old-buggard-riding-to-get-to-work-on-just-another-day against the festively decorated background that does it for me.

I host them on smugmug and then link then here. We are still limited to 8, and its alot easier to do and much easier to see them that way.

There are a number of low cost or free sites that allow you to do this. I am not sure what the basic cost of a smugmug account is, but once you use smugmug you will realize that it was a steal. I love it!

Thanks for looking man! How is Juneau treating you? Any plans on coming down in the near future?
