i made some edits on raw files; when i want to exit DPP it asks me if I want to save changes. Is it reversible or maybe permanent alteration of the raw files?THX

Don't use DPP, so I can't give you all the answers, but RAW edits are not "permanent" in the way edits to other formats are. RAW edits basically save instructions for how to display the file, but the base RAW file remains the same.

As was previously noted, the raw image itself is not modified at all so any changes you make in the raw processing can be reversed back to the original settings or the last saved settings. Note that although the raw image data itself is not changed, DPP does save the edited settings in the raw file so the last modified date/time will get changed to the current date and time. This may or may not matter to you but some people like the file modified date to be the date the picture was actually taken so they don't like the idea of DPP changing it on them.

Are you sure about that date thing? i have version 3.0.1.a and in the photo info it just shows the shooting time/date

I think he's referring to the file date and time as viewed through something like Explorer.

I think it's Windows that creates the file-created dates, not DPP.

No, I was talking about the file modified date. That date is pretty accurate because the system changes it every time the file is modified but the file create date sometimes is not.

I don't think the "file" is "created" until you transfer it from the CF card to the hard drive...

Yup, just tested it out. Here's a raw file I shot at 3pm today, just copied it from the CF to the C drive, then went into DPP and adjusted the exposure and saved it.

I'm glad we got that all straightened out:cool:

Did you note what the modified date was before you went into DPP, adjusted the exposure and then saved it?

[EDIT: Oh, are you saying that the modified date didn't change even after you edited the raw file in DPP and saved it?

Take a look at this. This is on the Mac but I'm sure it works similarly on the PC (have't had time to verify it, yet).

Below is the original thumbnail of a raw file (left), along with the Exif info (center) which shows the date the picture was taken. Both are partial screenshots of DPP. To the right is a preview of the same raw file as shown in Finder (Mac's equivalent of the PC Explorer). See how the modified date matches the date shown in the Exif? (The date is showing as "Yesterday" in Finder because it is already Saturday, my time.

Now take a look below. I pulled that raw file into DPP and decreased the exposure and then saved the change. The date shot hasn't changed in the Exif, which is to be expected. But take a look at the modified date now shown in Finder. It now shows the date and time I edited that raw file instead of the shot date that was showing previously.
