I was going to buy 10d, the reports are generall very good. I am now considering a 300d. It's £500 less!! Is there a difference in image quality. Is there anything serious that the 10d has that the 300d hasn't??

The image quality is the same. What you are paying for on the 10D is a magnesium alloy body, and increased functionality through Flash Exposure Compensation on the camera body and Custom Functions. You can acquire some of those things through a "hacked" firmware that is available.
I suggest you do a side by side comparison and see if the differences are worth $500 to you.

Scott

Go to a photography shop and pick them both up.

Do a comparison, see which one fits your style of shooting best.

Both have their merits.
- Saving 500$ on the 300D enables you to spend these 500$ on lenses that you will carry over to your next camera.
- Investing 500$ if you like the feel of the 10D better or need some of the custom functions not available on the 300D might make you a lot more happy in the long run

... it's up to YOU to make that decision.

Keep in mind that there might be a replacement for the 10D announced at the Photokina in October. Will not be in the stores before spring 2005, but still worth considering.

Best regards,
Andy

I use both. The 300D is a great backup body to my 10D. If you can live with the limitations of the 300D, or are willing to hack the firmware, then get the 300D and use the money you saved on some good glass.
