I saw a review on this eBay flash bracket, figured it would made a interesting project and gain some experience with brackets. So I ordered one, $45 shipped from Hong Kong.
This is supposed to be a "re-engineered" sample of the Stroboframe camera flip bracket, but I think they might have over done a bit
. They did claimed that it will work on cameras with battery grips. I changed out the nylon nuts already in this shot of factory bracket.

They have a different picture of the bracket on their eBay site, the one with a "straight" flash arm instead of the flash flip arm. But I already knew that from the review. The first mod I did was to split it up in two: I made a aluminum plate for the flash flip arm; Used a flat steel stock for camera flip arm, and added a stand/hand grip.

One thing I noticed with the camera flip part was that there is no way to seat the camera down, because the setup won't stand upright. So I added the mini stand on front of the bracket. It also works nicely as a palm rest for adjusting the zoom lens. For my 20D, there are just too many flex points to use the camera flip and the grip, I didn't even try to made a wider flash arm to accommodate grip.

For the flash flip part, it's less comfortable to use than the camera flip. I don't see I would use it often if at all. But it's more compact and maybe would fit in the camera bag, that's why I made the camera plate for it as in pic #2. The biggest complaint of the flash flip is the way the shutter button is forced to the bottom in vertical posistion. I tried to correct that by making another plate, and switch the flip arm to the right side of the camera. As you can see in the picture below, I can use my right hand over the top or stick middle finger through that hole and use the shutter on the grip. ( the tap at top left is bent into the strap holder area for anti twisting function)

They are at horizontal position. The hot shoe adapter on top of the film camera is from londuck of flashzebra.com.

And off course a mod is not done for me without adding some tupperware
