Thought I'd share a few more of my photo's of dogs - As you can see I like to watch them racing, and try to catch the movements - sometimes they are just so graceful.

All C & C always welcome - please do!

What incredibly muscular creatures.
Your challenge as a photographer is to show something that is happening so fast that the human eye has no hope of seeing it unaided.
Even in the shots where the body is almost perfectly stopped the feet were moving faster still and show some motion blur.
It seems you have a wide range of creative options from perfect stop action to panning to shots that creatively incorporate blur.
Good shooting.

Believe me please, I have tried sooooooo hard to capture these animals with some movement blur behind them to impress the speed. I just cant seem to get the right shot. I can freeze them & the background, at around 500 - 1000th/sec. or up the ISO and lower to about 320 or 250th. but they still elude me.
These dogs do about 0 - 35 mph in less than 6secs. I got the 30D, doing 5FPS and still miss loads before they're upto full speed, then they're gone.
It is a huge challenge, and each time I go, I'm looking for a different perspective, angle etc, and trying different apps' speeds etc etc.
One day I will get it spot on - Subject spot on focus, perfect blurry DOF.
Cheers
Andy

Thankyou - that's my little girl.
Taken locally, in the fields - chasing after her Frisbee. Not sure what the EXif was, but pretty sure either on sport mode or about 500th/Sec.

I can't stop chuckle about #2. It looks more like an accident in progress, with all legs tangled together :)

My favourite is the flyer in #4.

In #1, I would have liked the dog to the left of the picture, but I realize how hard it is with something so fast.

Hi Andy,
Those are beautiful shots!
I bet you get lots of shots with no dogs on it - it's very difficult to capture.
Have you tried using TV (shutterspeed priority)? Maybe a 1/1250 might work.
These pictures sure bring back memories. Our whippet-greyhound cross was black and the whippet was brindle color.
Have a great day!:)

#2 is amazing to see the legs looking "twisted up' like that, makes me nervous looking at it.

I normally use TV about 1/500th & sometime 1/1000th if the light is good enough, or sometimes have to 'up' the ISO to maybe 200 or 400 if I go AV on my max 4.5 or If I can't get close enough then 5.6 @ the full 300mm.
(Itching to get the 100 -400L - but my Birthday isn't till next month, and it is a load of money)
I have managed (rarely) to get a full freeze at 1/ 250th, but usually a lot of blurred legs.
I get loads of shots with half a dog in it, or just a bit of tail LOL.
I found that since upping to the 30D, the 5FPS comes in really handy for this sort of topic.
