With everyones help I decided on the following lenses for my 30D......

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM
Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

Thanks again to everyone who posted with your advice, I am very grateful. Any suggestions on retail websites to purchase from. My local camera shop seemed high on price so I didn't purchase the lenses the other night. Thanks.

Greg

I got my lenses, and get all other equipment I can, from Amazon -- no tax and no shipping if it's sold by Amazon (given that anything that says Canon on it is going to be over the $25 free shipping price). They often have the best price, and almost always the best price if you add up the shipping from other places. Also, you get a double rebate on Amazon stuff if you use an Amazon credit card, and my Amazon Visa has been very satisfactory in all respects. The other place I really like is B&H, though I've never had to return anything from there. Amazon's return policies are good, not that you'll want to return these lenses!

The prices you'd want to compare, I think, are B&H's with Adorama with Amazon.

The 70-200 takes great macro-type closeups with an extension tube (or two). Also, the extenders (they are called something else sometimes -- like extension tubes with lenses in them and do the reverse: make the telephoto effectively longer without the length and bulk) are great to have -- both pretty pricey if made by Canon but AF works well with both.

Now what's on the top of your wish list?

Canon calls them extenders, but they are normally called tele converters (TC).
