Just got my first ever DSLR today, a brand new 30d and Tamrom 17x50 f2.8 XR DiII. Thought I would post a first pic. This is a raw file straight from the camera, no PP, converted to .jpg and resized in photoshop. I took the pic with the dial set to "M", set my aperture to f2.8, and adjusted the shutter speed and ISO so that it was exposed to the right slighty, by about a 1/3 stop or so. And it is still underexposed.
I stumbled on this sight a month or so ago and and fell in love with a lot of the shots I saw, and realized I could never get it with my Kodak DX7590 point and shoot cam. So my wife and I are blaming you folks on putting a dent in our bank account, LOL!
Anyway, glad to be on board here. I have a whole lot to learn about this camera and all things associated with photography. Hopefully it will be an enjoyable experience.

thanks, Randy

Congrats on the lens. It is a great piece of glass at a good price. You should be very happy with that lens.

I am going to miss mine here very quickly, as I am selling it and getting the 24-70L. It has served me very well and has always been a favorite.

Congratulations!

I, too, was shooting a Kodak DX7590 until a couple of weeks ago when I bought the XTi kit and been ever expanding since! Canon makes some excellent cameras.

congrats on the 30D decision.. well done. i'm kind of regretting not biting the bullet and going for the 30D rather than XT -- longing for the spot metering, big buffer, 5fps, more accurate AF, 2.5"lcd....

It's the best 1.6x crop camera in the world at this point in time. :D I've owned that lens before and had no regrets. I upgraded the same focal range just to get the "IS" feature. Welcome!
