All things considered, it is more a matter of the skill of the photographer rather than the camera itself. It depends on the lens and a host of other factors. The Digital Rebel is not exactly the very best camera for fast action like this, but it ought to do the job for a good photographer. The buffer size is a limitation.

Bobs right you can shoot anything if you use some planning. the buffer
is very small, i fill mine alot. you have to be a bit more selective with your shots. if you mean the time it takes to wake up from sleep mode,
you can adjust this in the settings. i usually just half press the shutter
every few seonds when i know the shot is coming. however this will shorten batt. life.

The Rebel is great for action. Startup time is only a couple seconds, which I think is similar to the 10D.
I wish you could select AI Servo mode (although that is almost fully accomplished now with the russian firmware).

I shot this sequence with the Rebel of a diver on a 3M platform. That is very fast action indeed, probably faster than motocross. However, it took about 1hr of crappy shots before I got the hang of it.

I've seen some amazing auto racing pictures here with the Rebel.

Its more about skill then equipment. I use a 10D with 100-400L and the buffer is not an issue at all as I seldom take more then one image at a time. Just depends on the sort of images you are looking for. You can check out my latest race pics http://users.air.on.ca …graphic/Proofs1/index.htm (external link)

The Rebel would do fair, but you'll have to be selective with your shots. Before acquiring the MKII I used the 10D and did quite well -- Got a magazine cover -- so it can be done. I was just a bit picky when I chose my shots to always try and have room in the buffer in case a super action shot came available.

Though the 10D is not as limited as the Rebel, it does have its limitations and I bumped into them from time to time. Now that I have the MKII, I now see how limited I really was.

As Bob said previously, the buffer will be your biggest enemy, and not having AI Servo focus will also be a limitation.

Other than that, as long as you choose your shots carefully, you can produce some awesome action shots with the Rebel.

BTW: I also recently acquired a Rebel. Haven't played with it much, but it's now in the bag.
