Here are some more pics from the same time frame in April 2007
This bird was a wild bird but obvioulsy humans have been feeding it as I was able to get quite close.
I could almost touch the bird, and due to having the Siggy 70-300 on I had to step back to regain focus.
CC welcome, Enjoy

You certainly got very close! All the shots seem some what "faded" though, I don't know why, maybe its just me.

thanks for looking Sean,
yeah they maybe a little bit faded more than normal as I was trying to keep the detail in the eye, if I adjusted the shadows too much I'd loose that detail.
it is a very fine line.

Nice shots with lots of details Sam..did you try a slight boost in contrast? I use it to get rid of the faded look in my pictures. :D

Excellent closeups Allan!
Clearly very tame bird if you got that close.

Trevor,
I'll try a slight contrast boost on one or two and see, thanks for looking and CC

Mitch,
Thanks for the compliments, I wanted to try something slightly different instead of the usual oh a Pelican type shots, I'm not sure how far up North they go, I'm pretty sure this is a female though as the males have more colors in the head, she sure was really patient with me though.

Sorry, Ray I don't know why I thought your name was Rick
Thanks for looking, Unfortunately I don't think this Siggy is as sharp as other lenses out there, however I have learned it's relative weaknesses and try to bring out the best I can from it, sometimes it is too much.
I am however ready for some L glass such as the 100-400, Even thinking of the 70-200 f/2.8
IS is a big need, none of my lenses have this right now.
I do take into concideration the reciprocal rule to try and achieve clearer sharper shots, as soon as the sun starts to drop and I loose that light, is when the lens fails me and I have to use a tripod.

Ken
Yes, she was very tolerant of me, she must have thought I had some fish, this area is where most people clean their catch after a days fishing out in the glades or the Gulf.
I am thankful she let me get these shots.

Thank you all for the kind words, really appreciate it

WOW! Allan these almost qualify for macro forum. ;)
Excellent detail and sharpness. I can't believe you were able to get that close, good job!
