I PM'd Jon our resident Domke expert a couple of days ago but haven't had a response, so maybe someone else can help with my question.

I'm looking for a satchel bag for some camera gear and a 15.4" laptop. After looking and looking it appears that the only bag that isn't a Crumpler-purse or not black and rigid, is the Domke F-802. I have the smaller Domke F-803 and I'm happy with it.

My concern is, in one of Jon's posts, which I can't find, he indicated that he didn't think the 802 would accommodate a camera and a laptop together.

I want to carry at minimum, a 20D (no grip), with a 24-105 mounted and a 15.4" laptop. Could someone with this bag tell me if this combination will fit?

I can add an F901 or 902 for other gear as needed, but that doesn't help if the bag isn't deep enough for the laptop and camera.

Thanks for your help.

I get mine tomorrow. If you haven't heard from him by then, then I will be happy to let you know if I think it will fit.

I didn't get mine to hold a laptop, but I looked at every bag imaginable and it is the only one that works for my needs. It seems like a great bag!

Thank you for your response. Do you have a laptop to test my question?
Thanks.

My girlfriend has a 15.4" Toshiba Satellite laptop. It is widescreen, (i don't know if all 15.4" laptops are) but I will see if I can get her to bring it over tomorrow so I can test it. It is also a Centrino Duo, so it is a little thinner than the bigger Pentium 4 laptops. If this will work, let me know and I can try it out. I have a 10D and a 24-70 lens that I can try with it attached.

That would be terrific. My laptop is is just a hair over 14" w x 10" h and about 1.25" thick. Thanks again!

Pinto...

I just measure the pocket on mine. It is 14x10....but that does not include any "give" for the 1.25. I suspect that 13" would be the max. laptop width.

My F-802 is brand new....still has tag on it. I decided to stay with the J-803, which I have set up exactly how I want it....internal pockets and side bags. Lack of focus caused me to not return it. I may or may not use it in future, but if you are interested, let me know.

Thank you for your response. The measurement is not good news. I'm under the gun for a trip so I went ahead and ordered one yesterday. I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will fit. I swear bags are going to be the death of me!

Too bad after all your looking that you're not happy with it.

Not unhappy....just decided for now I am happier with the J-803. The F802 is just a little bigger than I need right now....and I don't carry a laptop any more....I went "untethered" when I retired 4 years ago  .

Thanks Chromewaves, but I wanted something other than black.

ah. I understand - I'm contemplating a bag with about the same needs as you as I've got a 15" MacBook Pro en route and the only thing keeping me from upgrading my Think Tank Urban Disguise 40 to the 50 is the drabness of the bag. Which I suppose is the point, but still. a *little* style wouldn't hurt.

I couldn't get a 15.4 inch laptop to fit. It was a widescreen and it was about an inch too wide.
