Nice shots Will. I sold my only wide angle (17-40) but borrowed one for Red Bud. It takes courage to shoot that wide on a MX track that's for sure. The only shot I don't care for is the 2nd one. It just looks too over done.

right on, emile! thank you!

you're right about shooting that close, but i guess since i ride also, i don't think about it too much. i only shoot the fast guys, and i usually have a pretty good feel for what they'll do. i also learned a good trick this weekend - my girlfriend's umbrella makes a great roost shield!

that second one is pretty bizarre. i know it has a limited audience, but it's just me farting around with wierd stuff because...well...i'm a wierd dude! ;)

Great shots there, like you I too love the 70-200 f/4L, but I now have a new sigma 17-70, and when I get a real flash, I am gonna give the close up stuff a try, anyone tried it on road bikes, on a slow corner??

the 17-70 is a good lens. you'll like it! the only reason i don't have one anymore is because i decided to "trade it in" for a wigma and a canon 24-105 f2.8l.

Wow man! Great shots! I imagine you have to be pretty darn close to get those!

Me being the way I am...I'd be more worried about throwing the MXers off (flash and being so close) than getting hit myself.

great shots did you look at the sigma 24-70 or 28-70/2.8 before you got your new lens.

ah...i misinterpreted your email. i actually didn't look at those lenses from sigma. i knew i wanted is so i automatically went with the canon 24-105.

as far as getting close goes, yes...very, very close! the riders aren't bothered by the flash though, at least not in the daytime. since i ride myself i was always worried about that, but when i asked, they said they hardly notice.

Very impressive shots with the UWA. I shot cycling races with my 12-24 and found that not only do you have to be ultra close but also quick cause objects move by very fast at that distance. These are a nice change from the typical 70mm plus range. Good work.
