"Betty's Dream" reminds me of the old book "Whip" by Martin Caiden. A squadron of B-25s flown like fighters. Each had 14 .50 calibers all firing forward! Besides the 8 in the nose, the later B-25J had 2 cheek mounts on either side of the nose, & the top turret was also aimed forward.

A different look at the Blue Angels.

IMAGE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v218/PhotosGuy/Air%20Show%202004/_MG_0195.jpg?t=1184032086

Panchito kept the bombsite, so it "only" has 3 .50s in the nose + the 4 cheek mounts & the top turret.

Betty's dream looks more like someone's nightmare! Good Gawd I would hate to have that coming after me!

I also really like your different take on the blue angels. Very nicely done!

Yes, that was "Thunder over Michigan" on Sunday. I wasn't happy with the new location. They closed off access to the static displays at 10:30, so we had crappy backgrounds & lost the warm up & taxi shots. We also lost the nice angles we used to have as they turned in for a pass. I'm sure that they are happy with the increased attendance, but if they're going to do that next year, I suspect that I'll look for a spot on a road somewhere.

Very cool Blues shot.

Thanks, Tim. Just a quick grab shot as they turned near the sun, & 1/2 stop overexposed. I SO love RAW! :D

Thanks for the comments everyone!

I added a couple of "Nose Art" shots above showing the cheek mounting of the .50s. Panchito kept the bombsite, so it "only" has 3 .50s in the nose.

I heard they are going back to the old layout next year. Only reason for the change this year was because of the Blues. There will be no military team next year.

I heard they are going back to the old layout next year.

Good plan, if it's true. My history with them is that they care more about the corporate donations than they do about the spectators & warbird fans.
A friend emailed them about the typos in the program last year & offered free professional proofreading to them. They didn't even answer his email.

We'll see.

Update: the President of the Museum has said, "This was a one time shot in the arm (By the Airport Authority) to help in our fund raising efforts to build a new museum. As you are probably aware, this was the biggest event we had ever tried to do. I too believe in the up close and personal. We had more people in one day than we ever had for an entire weekend event."

So it looks like we'll be back to the old format next year.

hail of bullets

A friend of mine knows someone who was on a Pacific island in WWII. He called the navy for a fire mission & they sent one of these. It looked like the recoil braked the B-25 in the air & every bit of brush on the hill disappeared! :D
