True. Did you notice the dead ships on the Pacific Prowler's nose? It must have been tough when you didn't even have a hole to crawl into? ;)

Nice shots :)

8 .50s in tight grouping like that is sure to pack a punch! I think 14 would be slightly overkill :D

Would you still think that if someone is shooting back at you? ;)

Well 6 extra .50s with ammo weighs a little bit... might sacrifice for a little manouverability ;)

A friend of mine knows someone who was on a Pacific island in WWII. He called the navy for a fire mission & they sent one of these. It looked like the recoil braked the B-25 in the air & every bit of brush on the hill disappeared! :D

The best field mod though was when they mounted a 105mm howitzer on B25s. The gun itself was mounted in the tunnel under the flight deck and the muzzle stuck out basically right down the pilot's line of sight.

They used them for "one and run" (as this was all it took to hole them...) strikes on light and medium warships and cargo "Maru."

I like that shot of the Blue Angels! I like the jet stream to help lead-in for the whole shot. Good job!

Lot's of "back-yard" innovation went on then! When the guerrillas ran out of ammo in the Philippines, they cut up curtain rods for bullets!

I like that shot of the Blue Angels!

I almost didn't take it, with all the flare I was getting. PP saved me again! :D

Anyone brave enough to pop their head up in front of that deserved a medal. If they kept their head

You've got to be kidding :o I never heard of that before. That must have packed a huge punch.

btw. I am not doubting you, I am just amazed they did that

Upon further review, I stand corrected:

They only mounted 75mm cannon not a 105mm...

Those innovations were carried through in later "wars". Smaller caliber than the 75mm & 105mm (as if that mattered), but "Puff, the Magic Dragon" (external link) put out 18,000 rounds/minute. No, it's not a typo.

And they did follow up with the Spectre, the C-130 based AC-130H (external link)design was first used by U.S. Special Forces in Vietnam. It mounted a 105mm howitzer, two 20mm Vulcan cannon and one 40mm cannon...

Hmmm... I don't think running would help from what I've seen.

Interesting... I didn't realise the C130 was such an old design.
