One continued frustration with LR keywording is the need to manually enter keywords in the find box rather than use a check box system like PSE Organizer.

An example. If I want to search for all images of myself in PSE I just click the check box next to the 'Al' keyword. Simple, no confusion. l In LR I have to enter Al in the find box which then also selects images such as hospital - not what I wanted!

Not true - I discovered this to my chagrin when trying to apply a keyword to a bunch of images by clicking on it.

When I clicked on the keyword in the list, it brought up all the matches containing that keyword.

Took me a few goes before I remembered that I should right-click the keyword to apply to selected images, and not just normal-click it.

I'm not talkign about applying keywords, but searching for them.... otherwise you are right.

Yeah - that's what I meant (may I have the wrong end of the stick here) - if you click a keyword (lets say the keyword in your list is "Al") it'll bring up all the photos using that keyword (and the same number of photos as the tally beside it).

So I'd say it's a little quicker than what you describe with PSE Organizer - instead of clicking a checkbox, LR will instantly bring up the matches when you click the keyword itself.

Right but if you want to look for images with two keywords you have to workaround just clicking on two keywords. For instance, if you wanted images that contain both China and General Candid you can't just click on both or CTRL click on both, you have to use the find tool or click on one, CTRL + A to select all files and then click on the other.

Speed seems about the same there, to me... either you click word, or you click checkbox to show those images.

But when you want to start combining keywords to casually browse your catalog LR REALLY reveals itself as a pain. (Doing AND searches to narrow a field.)

Bad enough the behavior EosAddict mentioned of 'Al' and 'Hospital' coming up in the same search when typing in the Find box... but searching for Pictures of John in Chicago is a pain... you are forced to type it into the find box... and if you change your mind and want to see John in New York... you have to type that in too (And I don't even know what LR does for two word keywords like New York.) Much improvement needed in keywording... I'm disgusted every time I use LR for that, that I haven't keyworded since March.

Oh I see. Thought it was a case of click checkbox then click enter or something. Never used PSE Organizer myself like.

Anyone find a good way to search for photos without keywords and then assign multiple keywords to them? It's quite easy in PSE to choose "Find untagged photos" and then select mulitple keywords (tags) and then assign them to a photo. But in LR if I search for photos without keywords, once I assign the first keyword it of course disappears from the search results so I can't assign additional keywords. The only way I've found to do it is to manually type them in on the right side of the screen and wow will that take forever...

Once you find the images put them into the quick collection by pressing B with them all selected. Then when you finish just remove them from the quick collection. :)

All comments above clarified my point!

Multiple keyword searches is the pain. What I want is a qucik way of doing a keyword AND search. Multiple clicking does an OR search which is usually no good to man nor beast.

A quick change of the logic from OR to AND would make such a difference!

Al just to make sure. You do know that if you click one keyword, then select all images and click additional keywords this does what you want and it is fairly quick?

Execept it doesn't help for what I want... to switch up my AND selection quickly and easily.

my example

Search for JOHN in CHICAGO....
decide I want JOHN in NEW YORK instead (with checkboxes I could just click off the Chicago, then click on New York.)

Maybe I then decide to refine further and get MARY and JOHN in NEW YORK... I just click the Mary checkbox on, because the other two are already selected.

Its this going back and forth between keywords which is excellent, awesome, (other praise here) in elements.

Using the method you describe works as long as you don't wish to change any of the keywords to find/refine your selection.

But unfortunately that's what we have to work with in Lightroom... pitiful. That's why as much as I like LR, I CANNOT wholehearted reccomend it to anyone who wants to do keywording, and then have an enjoyable time finding their images.

Mike,

Thanks I did not know that, it helps but David's post above is the nub of the issue for me too - useability

I didn't say it would work for you David, you are too difficult. ;)

HEY!!!! :) :)

Actually, I'm trying spouting my complaints about this KW useability thing every chance I get, in the hopes that someone from Adobe might actually see it and do something about it.

I'm sure Al and I CAN'T be the only ones out there that see the value of that.
