Something else I just discovered...

If you assign a keyword by typing in box it will autofill for you if it finds a matching keyword. Unfortunately, if the matching keyword is capitalized but you started typing in lowercase, it will fill in the existing keyword but leave it un-capitalized and create a new keyword. So now you have two key-words the same, one starting with a capital letter and one starting with a lowercase letter. ??

Hmmm, I don't see that. I have capitalised city and country names and if I type one all lower case it will change the capitalisation to match in the keyword box. The database search is case insensitive. You can test this yourself by editing an existing keyword. Right click a keyword and select edit. try changing the case of one letter. As an example, I have "abandoned" as a concept. If I try and change it to Abandoned I receive an warning message - The name "Abandoned" is already taken. Please choose a different name. Clicking 'OK' takes me back to the edit dialog. its possible to change it using a two step process, add something like a number, I use 1, as well as change the case, save it, then reedit and remove the 1.

11,000 keywords? How could you possibly remember them all to know what to type? And you better get the spelling exact...

I agree with David & Al. It's sooo much easier in Elements that I can't comprehend why LR doesn't have something similar.

And if you have 11,000 keywords, you combat that by using a heirarchy. You should still be able to type them if that's what you like, I don't think anyone's advocating doing away with that. But check-boxes that allow multiple selections would be a great addition.

It's what a controlled vocabulary is all about Elizabeth. I don't have to remember them all, nor do I have to remember how to spell them. Correct, they are in multiple hierarchies, so there aren't many top level ones and Lightroom conveniently presents a drop down list as I start typing so I can arrow down the list to select the wanted keyword and parent(s).

As an example, have a look at the keywords on http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157600232442167/ (external link)

The keywords entered in Lightroom are: Liverpool, festive event - including carnival, women
The rest are exported as parents and synonyms.

has Dubbo, sulphur-crested as the two keywords in Lightroom.

I have check boxes that allow multiple selection in IMatch and have found that although they work well and are very quick with a small keyword set they become unwieldy with a lot of keywords and one is forever scrolling to find the wanted keyword.

About halfway down http://www.computer-darkroom.com/lr_11/lr-11-review.htm (external link) there is an explanation of the find panel and how to include or exclude words from a search.

I'm glad yours works as I think it should. I can assure you mine creates another keyword if the case doesn't match. I didn't imagine it... ;) Maybe it's a preference setting I haven't found.

Know all that but thanks. I enjoyed quitting all of that unnecessary typing back when they invented the mouse. No one has said searches couldn't be done in LR, a few of us have just said it could be easier. Some people apparently think it's great the way it is. That's fine, that doesn't bother me. Please don't let it bother you that other people would still like an easier interface for filtering keywords.
