Does the fact that I didn't get all of the guy on the wall in the shot ruin this?

It was a very rushed shot - I was leaving the office and had agreed to drop some co-workers at the airport, I looked up and saw this and had to frantically get my kit out of my bag and grab a quick shot. On the plus side I was quick enough that the people on the wall didn't notice me. Still should have noticed his leg though

No it's not IR. It's a channell mixer monchrome conversion. You can get quite IR looking results by setting the channels to:

R = 110
G = 90
B = -100

Obviously you need to adjust them for each image but these are good starting values. You often need to apply quite a strong S curve as well.

Sometimes I admire phots where photographers boldly decided to cut something out, and when they did, they did it with reason and thinking. If it's accidental, it is usualy obvious that it's accidental and in such case it bring imperfection to the shot. I say erase the accidental 'flag' out and cut some more of the guy, but not too much. It is an interesting fact, that he is the only black guy in the frame, he's on the edge of it, alone and dressed rather sharp _and_ he is the only disturbing element in the photo.

I just couldn't get a nice crop taking more of him out. They all end up cutting through his lunch!!

1st choice would be with all him (obviously), 2nd with what you have of him and 3rd without him. It seems to lack something (balance?) with him cloned out.

Definitely. It breaks the bow those guys form. Put him back!

I like this picture very much. Would be interesting to see it w/o the IR effect.

The colour version - to me the red of the building was too dominating hence B&W, the IR look was maily an attept to add drama to the sky.

I used Photoshop CS (but the commands are the same in PS7.0)

open the image
click on Images, adjustments, Channel Mixer
check the monchrome box
there are 3 sliders, one each for the Red, Green and Blue channels
you adjuct these to get the look you want
a good rule is to try and get the 3 values to add up to around 100
in this case R = 110, G = 90, B = -100
click on OK
