Trouble Reading LCD Monitor Outdoors

TROUBLE READING LCD MONITOR OUTDOORS:

Greetings ...

I do a lot of outdoor shooting with my Canon EOS D60.

Now I like to check the picture I just made in the LCD monitor but the ambient glare is usually too strong. Also, the monitor image is just too small to check meaningfully. I even tried placing an 8x photo loupe over the LCD monitor but the view is heavily pixelated.

How have you gotten around this anoyance? Multiple replies welcomed.

heeeey, no chimping !

Well usually I cant see the picture in bright sunshine, but I can see the histogram well enough. That's all I need. If I really want to see the picture I had somewhere in the shade.
Have you tried playing with the contrast of your LCD a little ?

Normally, in broad daylight, hardly anybody can see the LCD image in a meaningful way. If I really need to view the histogram, I will bend over so that my body is shading the camera from the sun. In that bent over state, I can see enough of it to continue until I get to the next bit of shade.

There are a bunch of odd looking products out there designed to help.. "Hoodman" comes to mind..

But .. it's the truth.. no one can read these LCDs in any kind of sunlight.
