Hi Carl. Met you over in the "other place." I would have cropped these a little. Love the skipper - once they are busy feeding, you can get really close. Good luck. David
Thanks David for the comments and advice to post here. Sometimes I get stuck with the cropping between wanting a detail shot which shows off more technical ability, and a wider crop which favors the artistic senses.

Very nice, especially like the first. What sort of settings/flash were used?
Thanks Mark. - 100mm | iso400 | f/6.3 | 1/500 | No Flash - I did dodge the Silver-spotted a bit in PS CS3.
Thanks Brian.

I disagree on cropping them. I like them just as they are with a bit of the environment to add interest. I've never seen the second species before. What a pretty little insect.
The first shot is a european skipper. They were accidently introduced to Canada in 1910 by eggs in imported grass seed - we call them essex skippers in the UK.
Thanks eccles. I strongly suspected the European Skipper based on the photo in my Audubon Guide, but my wife misread the range and I accepted her answer that they weren't found around here.

Lovely shots of them both. #2 is a pretty little thing. Beautifully captured. Linda
And thank you too Linda.
