Well,. I was beginning to get worried..

"My" Heron had not retuned to the park. and it is much later in the season than last years forst sightings.

In fact.. all the birdlife has dropped off dramtically thus far this season. (except ducks!)

Today looked like another wasted trip.. which was a bummer as I was trying out the 100-400mm for the first time.

I had given up.. and was sitting down eating a late lunch at 5:00pm.. when all of sudden I realize I am about 20 feet from Big Blue.. who was standing in the brush...

Lunch is abandoned.. it's the Big Guys turn to feed...

...he sees something...

Nice shots, CDS. I'm pretty sure that you're going to love this lens. I've only had mine 2 days and I already love it!

Nice shots, CDS. Glad to see that you were able to put the 100-400 to good use on it's first day out! :)

BTW, did you ever get to finish your lunch or did some ducks or geese run off with it.

Wow, what an impressive bird! You have captured it wonderfully too. The first one is my favourite. I love the colour, expression, detail, composition and colour. Awesome work!!! :D

Thank you kindly :)

The 100-400mm is looking to make lugging the 500mm Prime around a lot more difficult..

Although this lens has it's downsides.. (or "medium sides",. "averadge sides"? ) there is one thing for which I absolutely can;t fault it.. and that's Image quality!!! It is all pure Canon L! No questiuon about that. 8)

JerryZ:
I am blown away that such a small light package can do what this lens does.
I am now debating taking the Big Prime on the plain trip to Newfoundland this July? It would change EVERYTHING if I didn't have to lug that beast AND it's required tripod with mondo gimble head.

PacAce:
My dogs ate my lunch.. but they were good enough to "Stay" like they were told,.and thus did not disturb the bird.. I guess we can consider lunch a bribe :)

CrystalVenus:
Thanks,. I like the first one too. The 2nd and 3rd I had to do some cropping.. from where i was standing a tree blocked half the frame when it lunged.. so those shots were not the best... I was really lucky to get the lunge at all.. it might just well have all been behind those trees...

The 1st shot on the other hand,. he was walking right towards me! What do you know? he recognizes me from last year! :D

Great shots CDS, I love the first one best. The water is so beautiful. You will love that lens, it will never leave your bag for a good while.

The heron is going to become the next Supermodel!! LOL
