With gas prices as high as they are, he probably held off making the trip hoping the prices would drop a bit.

Nice capture with the lens. I just got my 100-400 last week, got a chance to get the required moon shot and a few shots on Sat. between rain showers. Tomorrow is the first time I've had to really give it a good work out. I have two days of Portland Dragon Boat racing.

CDS,
Grat captures! Now you I have to convince you to get a Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX!!!

Wait, you have done the range and then some of that beast. That kills that idea, unless you need the low light performance which I don't see that happpening shooting birds and stuff...but...in your other photog capacity it may prove very useful!

Good stuff CDS. I knew you'd do it justice. Nice capture of the action. I like that one best. Looking forward to what else you'll come up with using your new lens.

I was watching one of these the other day, and was noticing how they sometimes "skewer" the fish with their beaks. One had flown in from fishing to a little beach near where I was. It had a fish in it's mouth, which it dropped on the beach. Then, as the fish started to flop, it skewered it with it's beak, then shucked it from it's beak with one of it's feet, picked it up, and swallowed it whole. They're really fun to watch.

blah something clever blah blahdie blah.....

Look at that beak in the first shot.. that thing IS a skewer... it's like walking around with a sword!

I love to watch them.. (and photograph)

...they, like so many predators,.. are the very model of pure patience.. standing totally still in the shallows.. like a statue.. untill that moment something happens by... 8)
