70-200 f4 non IS focus error

A friend of mine has borrowed a 70-200 f4, the non IS version, from another friend and the lens is quite significantly back focusing. It's been sent to Canon Canada for repair but they can't find anything wrong. Canon Canada's competence is highly questionable, so their estimate doesn't mean a thing to me.

What I'd like to know is if this back focus problem is specific to this particular lens or have many other people had trouble with the 70-200 f4, and it's more of a generic production problem?

Could be the combination of the lens and the body. If you send both in, they can fix it. Personally, I have only had one focus problem, which was solved by Canon by sending in the lens alone...

No it's a 10D, a 20D and a 5D.
