Is it worth buying a faster CF card for a Digital Rebel? ie. the write speed will be faster than the standard ones. I have a few of the older cards and thought about buying a newer, faster model but thought I saw that it really did not make a difference, but could not find it using the search feature.

Any feedback on this.

Thanks

Kevin

I'm currently using a Sandisk Ultra II in my Digital Rebel. It allows faster writes and shutter bursts than the Kingston card I had been using.

I think you will find that the Ultra II is the fastest your camera can cope with.

The advantage of a faster card is in downloading to your computer. And to take full advantage of the super fast cards like the Extreme IV and Lexar 300x you need to use a firewire card reader, USB 2.0 does not come close. In the camera the difference is not all that fantastic.

That's it.

I asked Canon support about the write speed of the camera once on the 30D, I wish I had kept the reply but I didn't---in a nutshell he said buying a fast card was a waste of money in his opinion because the write speed of the camera is actually quite slow compared to most of the cards. I had asked about the Extreme III at the time.

But the short story is the camera is slower than the cards by quite a bit.
